Save Westhaven Marina Says Jones
“The Labour Government has failed Auckland miserably in its refusal to take any action to preserve Westhaven Marina for future generations of Auckland, said Dail Jones New Zealand First List MP.
“The founders of Auckland must be turning in their graves to think that not only Westhaven Marina, but also other parts of the waterfront could end up in foreign hands as a result of a law passed by a Labour Government.
“I have written to the Minister of Local Government requesting a meeting with him urgently to discuss the provisions of the Port Companies legislation because I need an explanation as to why his advisors indicate that the Ports Company has any authority to sell any land. It is my view that the Act does not give them any such authority.
“Again, I believe the Port Company does not have the ability to transfer a legal title to the foreshore and the seabed in terms of the Land Transfer Act.
“I have asked the Minister for copies of all advice and legal advice given to him by his officials and Crown Law or any other body with regard to the matter.
“I am prepared to support or introduce a Private Member’s Bill to establish an authority to operate the marina,” said Mr Jones.
