United Future: Waitangi Tribunal report not the way forward
United Future leader Peter Dunne says the government is right not to cave into the recommendations of the Waitangi Tribunal’s report on the foreshore and seabed issue.
“Frankly, the report was predictable, but going back to the drawing board, as the Tribunal suggests, simply prolongs the uncertainty and agony for the majority of New Zealanders,” he said.
“To make progress, what the government should do now is bring its proposed legislation into the public arena so that people can see debate what is actually being proposed, not what people are wildly speculating about.
“That way, some reality will be introduced into the debate, and the current uncertainty will be reduced,” said Mr Dunne.
