Fight Four Pronged Attack Urges
New Zealand First
New Zealand First is again calling for the Government to wage all out war on the manufacture, distribution and use of
methamphetamine to save our youth.
The associate Minister of Health Mr Jim Anderton said in Parliament yesterday that the government had announced
introduction of “community action programmes” aimed at reducing the demand for drugs.
“This is still not going to effectively lead the fight against the abuse of amphetamine-type drugs,” said youth affairs
spokesperson Craig McNair.
“The effect of these drugs on our young people has never been clearer but we seem to have given up the fight.
“New Zealand First is calling on the government to take the politics out of “P” and introduce a four-pronged attack on
the scourge.
“This will require a coordinated community response, comprehensive drug education, Policing provided with the resources
and the powers to bust the gangs and close down the labs, and treatment to halt recidivism.
“It is time that we as a nation say enough is enough and declare our communities drug free. Such a programme is vital
for the future of our youth,” said Mr. McNair.
