SACK THOSE RESPONSIBLE
New Zealand First law and order spokesperson Ron Mark has urged the Government to sack any judges, parole boards, prison
authorities and any other officials responsible for releasing dangerous offenders on home detention.
Mr Mark raised the case in Parliament today of Kevin Moana Jarden, who has just been found guilty of raping, sodomising
and sexually molesting two young girls aged between four and eight after being released on home detention in 1999 and
placed in a house with the girls.
Mr Jarden was known as a predatory paedophile who had a record of sexual offences including abduction, under-age sex and
indecent assault but the family was never told of this offending.
“How is that a man with a 40-year criminal record and known to have a predilection for young girls was placed with a
family with young children? What is wrong with our judicial system?” asked Mr Mark.
“We have a group of politically correct do-gooders letting dangerous criminals loose on an unsuspecting society. Home
detention was created for people who had committed minor crimes, not dangerous recidivist sex offenders.
“If the boards, judges and prison authorities are so intent on releasing these offenders, perhaps they would like to put
them up in their own homes. Maybe then we would see a drastic decline in the numbers of criminals given home detention.
“They must be held responsible for their ridiculous decisions,” said Mr Mark.
