EEO Trust Board appointment
Labour Minister Margaret Wilson and Women’s Affairs Minister Ruth Dyson today announced a new Public Sector appointment
to the Board of the Equal Employment Opportunities Trust.
Peter Hughes, Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development has been appointed for a three-year term. Peter
Hughes will replace Anne Carter, Acting Chief Executive of the Ministry of Women's Affairs, who has chosen not to seek
reappointment.
"We wish to thank Anne Carter for her excellent contribution to the EEO Trust's work and look forward to further strong
public sector leadership from Anne's replacement, Peter Hughes," the Ministers said.
The appointment of Peter Hughes will bring the composition of the EEO Trust Board to three males and four females, and
bring the number of public sector positions on the EEO Trust Board to four.
"Peter Hughes has considerable public sector experience, including senior management positions in the Ministry of
Health, the Health Funding Authority and the Department of Internal Affairs. Since 1 October 2001, he has been Chief
Executive of the Ministry of Social Development and is accountable for EEO in a department employing approximately 6000
staff " said Ministers.
The EEO Trust is a charitable trust established jointly by the Government and private sector employers. Its aim is the
voluntary promotion of equal employment opportunities to employers as good business practice. The functions of the Trust
include the promotion of the benefits of EEO practices, developing EEO resource material, and liaising with employer and
union networks and tertiary institutions to promote the Trust’s resources and services.
The EEO Trust Board is made up of nine trustees – five Private Sector Trustees and four Public Sector Trustees
