Donald to visit threatened West Coast schools
Green Co-Leader Rod Donald is today (Monday) visiting three West Coast schools earmarked for closure. The Green MP will visit Kaiata (10am), Blackball (11.30am) and Ngahere (1pm) schools to meet with teachers and parents.
Mr Donald is offering the Green Party's support in schools' efforts to stop the Education Minister's programme of closures.
"It is particularly insulting to the Blackball community that the Labour government wants to close the only school left in the party's birthplace.
On Friday Mr Donald visited several schools in the Taieri area that will close this week.
"The final assembly at Reid Park School was like a family funeral, with people grieving over the loss of an integral part of their community," Mr Donald said. "The Greens will continue to fight these unnecessary and irresponsible closures."
