Signing of treaty to regulate medicines and therapeutic products
Health Minister Annette King and Australian Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing Trish Worth will tomorrow sign a treaty to establish a single, bi-national agency to regulate therapeutic products, including medical devices and prescription, over-the-counter and complementary medicines.
The single agency will replace the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Saftety Authority (Medsafe).
The agency is expected to begin operation in 2005.
