Deliver The Mail Treen Says Peters
New Zealand First has suggested that Mike Treen of the Auckland Postal Workers Association concentrate on delivering the mail instead of becoming involved in politics on behalf of the Labour Party.
This follows Mr Treen claiming to object on behalf of his members to delivering a New Zealand First immigration circular in the Auckland area.
Rt Hon Winston Peters said today that Mr Treen’s union was linked to the Labour Party and that his objections were without credibility or substance.
“It appears Mr Treen wants to set himself up on behalf of the Government, as a self appointed arbiter of what mail New Zealanders should receive in their letter boxes.
“Does he object to fast food or liquor advertising, religious tracts or grocery specials?
“Does this union official think that he can stop income tax or rates demands? Does he want to open all the mail to ensure that he approves of the contents?
“New Zealand First has no intention of asking some jumped up, tinpot union official for permission to tell New Zealanders what is happening to their country.”
Mr Peters warned that if he found one case of the immigration circular not being delivered because of Mr Treen, he would approach New Zealand Post with a view to obtaining an appropriate prosecution.
“It is only the approach of the festive season that prevents me from describing the way Mr Treen is acting, but it is a word rhyming with banker,” said Mr Peters.
