Gangs On The Rise, Government On The Run
New Zealand First Law and Order spokesperson Ron Mark MP has again asked “ where is the commitment from the Government
to effectively deal with gangs?”
Mr Mark was commenting on the shameful situation in Wairoa yesterday when rival gang members fought in the streets
openly and without fear of the authorities, resulting in yet another gang related murder.
“ Gangs are on the ascendancy in many communities throughout New Zealand and their ability to fund their lawlessness and
violence through drugs, prostitution and other anti social activities continues with apparent impunity and with little
or no attention from the Ministers of Police or Justice at this time.
“ I well remember the howls of outrage at such activities when these MP’s were member in opposition, and I contrast that
with their silence and inaction now “ Mr Mark said.
“ The only way to treat gangs and to stay on top of them is to firmly, consistently and forcibly confront them in
communities in which they reside, Police should be harassing them out of existence by stopping them every time they come
out of their holes, searching them, checking their vehicles and generally making it difficult for them to continue to be
active ” Mr Mark said.
“ Good people should not have to witness events such as occurred in Wairoa, and it is the responsibility of central
Government to stamp them out before they become even bolder than they have already become “
“ If the Police Minister has become so soft and timid that he is too afraid to deal to the buffoons, then get out of the
job and let someone else take over. I look forward to being offered the post of Police Minister in a New Zealand First
