Nick Smith returns to work on Monday
National Deputy Leader Nick Smith will be back at work on Monday following a two-week break with his family in Nelson
and after meeting this afternoon with National Party Leader Don Brash in Christchurch.
"I am looking forward to working with Don and the Caucus team to build National into a winning team.
"I was exhausted and needed a break after a very busy period involving a nationwide petition on the foreshore and seabed
issue, a contempt of court charge over advocacy for a Nelson family and the writing and promotion of National's
education paper 'Schools of Excellence'.
"I overdid it during National's leadership change and just needed time to recharge my batteries.
"I have had a wonderful break sleeping, walking, swimming, reading, running, and playing with my children. I feel
completely rejuvenated and ready for the challenges ahead as Deputy Leader," Dr Smith says.
"Don is already doing an outstanding job as leader, communicating a far clearer message on where National stands.
"The Party and Caucus must unite behind him so New Zealand gets the choice of a better future under a Don Brash-led
Government."
Dr Smith is in Christchurch at a family function for the weekend and will be available to media Monday afternoon, after
he has settled into his new Parliamentary office.
