Labour's arrogance and cynicism in promising mandatory four-weeks annual leave after the next election is breathtaking
in the extreme, ACT New Zealand Commerce Spokesman Deborah Coddington said today.
"This is Helen Clark saying thanks to the unions. Flowers would have been cheaper, and more tasteful.
"What's more, unions should be wary of the Prime Minister's promises," Miss Coddington said.
"She promised business - at a Business New Zealand conference - there would be no four weeks' leave.
"The unions kicked up. Matt Robson introduced his Bill. Now we see a cynical attempt at keeping both sectors happy.
"What's the point of business groups making the effort of opposing this legislation before Select Committee, and the
members of that Committee, of which I am one, going through the farce of consideration and deliberation?
"The Prime Minister announces from on high that this will be law and thus makes a mockery of the democratic process.
"This will cost the country dearly, and it will be working families - not the union bosses or the Labour Party - who
pay," Miss Coddington said.
