Buck Stops With The Government
New Zealand First is hoping that the CYFS Chief Executive is not being used as a scapegoat after her resignation today following the damning review of CYFS last week.
“The buck stops with the Government to ensure that CYFS works to its full potential and in the best interests of children around the country,” said family affairs spokesperson Barbara Stewart.
“The Minister of Social Development, Steve Maharey needs to take responsibility for the failure of this department. There are at least 7 Labour Ministers with some degree of responsibility for ensuring our children are safe and with a huge surplus at their disposable. Surely they can band together to find some solutions instead of leaving an under resourced Child Youth & Family Services to pick up the pieces and a CEO to take the flak,” said Mrs Stewart.
