Ian Ewen-Street to address organic standards launch
Green MP Ian Ewen Street will speak at the launch of the new national standards for organic produce regime, this Tuesday evening at the Beehive.
The launch event will be hosted by New Zealand Standards Council chair Richard Westlake and Agriculture Minister Jim Sutton and features the announcement of national standards to effectively guarantee the quality and authenticity of organic produce.
The organics industry currently turns over $140 million with growth of 10 per cent each year.
The launching of the national standards regime have resulted from Green Party budget initiatives to fund the development of these standards and the development of a production strategy for the organics industry.
Tuesday's event marks the culmination of a four year-long effort from Mr Ewen-Street through the Primary Production Select Committee to protect and encourage the rapidly growing organics industry.
Hospitality and entertainment will be provided at the launch function.
