English pledges support to Brash leadership
National MP Bill English today pledged his support and loyalty to new leader Don Brash.
"I know what it is like to lead a caucus where there is some disunity. It is very difficult and destabilising for the party. I hope the caucus will now go forward unified and to this end I am happy to work with the new leader.
"I am a true loyalist of the National Party and I believe very strongly that the Labour Government is taking this country in the wrong direction. I believe National can still win the next election.
"National has this year set a good platform on the policy direction it wants to take and has given New Zealand strong messages on its stand on welfare, treaty, finance and education in particular.
"I will take a few days to talk to my family and adjust to our new circumstances," Mr English said.
