Statement from National Leader, Bill English
National Party Leader Bill English is calling a special meeting of the National Caucus on Tuesday to discuss the issue of leadership.
"It is necessary to quickly resolve this issue in the interests of the stability of the National Party.
"It would be too destructive to allow this to linger until the scheduled Caucus meeting on Thursday.
"I remain confident that I have the support of the majority of the Caucus and I intend leading National into the next election.
"We will not be distracted from our job of holding the Government to account and we will continue with the preparation of popular policies on citizenship, welfare, education and the economy that we can take to the public at the next election."
