New Zealand Can Be The Best Again
ACT New Zealand Leader Richard Prebble today announced, at the ACT Christchurch Regional Conference, that ACT would launch a concerted campaign to ensure that New Zealand schools were ranked among the best in the world.
"When I was at school, international comparisons showed that New Zealand school pupils topped the world in reading, writing and maths - there is no reason why we cannot do it again," Mr Prebble said.
"Labour has no agenda or vision to take our country - and our children - forward. Instead, it lurches from crisis to crisis, dismantles our democracy and takes away parents' right to choose where and how they educate their children.
"ACT, on the other hand, understands that every parent deserves the right to ensure their children have the best start in life. Unlike Labour, we have direction. The intellectual basis of our education policy is an important book written by ACT Education Spokesman Deborah Coddington, entitled `Let Parents Choose', to be published soon.
"Today, to exercise choice, parents must pay twice - once for the inadequate State model, and again in independent school fees. This is unacceptable. ACT will take its education campaign the length and breadth of the country, to every community, to every school, to every parent - we will ensure that no child is left behind," Mr Prebble said.
