Labour Must Leaves Lakes Alone

ACT New Zealand Deputy Leader Ken Shirley today called on the Labour Government to stop its intended transfer of the
foreshore and lakebeds of 14 Rotorua lakes to Te Arawa, following today's announcements.
"The principles surrounding public access and enjoyment over these significant lakes, and their foreshores, are no
different to those pertaining to the coastline.
"In 1922, legislation was passed deeming them to be owned by the Crow. Attorney General Margaret Wilson, however, has
been negotiating for two years, and is now committed to the transfer of their ownership to local Maori," Mr Shirley
said.
