Kedgley to address animal welfare conference
Green MP and Animal Welfare spokesperson Sue Kedgley will be a keynote speaker at the Australia New Zealand Council for
the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching being held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Monday 17 August in
Christchurch.
Her speech is entitled 'Lifting the Veil of Secrecy surrounding Animal Experimentation'.
Following her speech, Ms Kedgley will participate in a press conference being jointly organised by the Green Party,
SAFE, Animal Rights Legal Advocacy Network, the National Anti-Vivisection Campaign and the Animal Rights Alliance. The
press conference will expose some of the animal experiments that are being secretly conducted in New Zealand, and the
lack of public scrutiny of animal experimentation in New Zealand. It will take place at 1.15 p.m. on Monday 18 August at
the Litchfield Room, at the Centra hotel in Christchurch.
Other speakers include: Mark Eden, National Anti-Vivisection campaign Deirdre Bourke, ARLANZ (Animal Rights Legal
Advocacy Network) Dr Ray Greek, leading international vivisection campaigner, veterinarian and author of several books
on animal experimentation.
Ms Kedgley will launch her new private members bill (Animal Welfare (Openness of Information Pertaining to the use of
Animals in Research, Testing and Teaching) at the press conference, and will challenge the Government to end the
excessive and unnecessary secrecy surrounding animal experimentation in New Zealand.
On Monday evening, Ms Kedgley will speak at a public meeting entitled Lifting the Veil of Secrecy Surrounding Animal
Experimentation in New Zealand, organised in conjunction with leading anti-vivisection campaigners.
