Fulbright-EQC award
Finance Minister Michael Cullen today congratulated the EQC for its far-sightedness in supporting an annual Fulbright award to the United States for post-graduate study in fields relevant to the EQC’s areas of responsibility.
“The Fulbright-EQC Award in Natural Disaster Research will benefit the country as a whole and shows commitment to a knowledge economy,” Dr Cullen said.
“It will provide a useful opportunity to access the intellectual resources of the top American universities in projects which will directly assist New Zealand.”
The EQC is also discussing with the Fulbright programme and other institutions the provision of travel awards to bring eminent US academics to New Zealand to research, teach or study in disaster avoidance and management.
“Such exchanges could also only be positive for New Zealand and I wish the EQC well in bringing them to fruition,” Dr Cullen said.
