Peter All Dunne With Transmission Gully?
ACT New Zealand Wellington-based MP Heather Roy today gave her support to the Automobile Association campaign to
fast-track the proposed Transmission Gully motorway, and was not surprised that United Future Leader Peter Dunne has not
yet done the same.
"It appears that Mr Dunne's enthusiasm for Transmission Gully - one of his main platforms during the election - has
waned since the election votes were counted," Mrs Roy said.
"We currently have only one highway coming into, and heading out of, Wellington. This is not adequate for a capital
city. Our earthquake-prone location makes it especially important that another road in and out of the city is
operational before a large quake hits.
"This is something that Mr Dunne once felt - or purported to feel - very strongly about. Having campaigned hard on this
issue, he has now gone strangely silent - a silence that coincided with his gaining a deal with the Government. Yet that
is not to say that this issue is over and done with.
"My canvassing of Ohariu-Belmont residents has revealed that two-thirds supported the construction of Transmission
Gully, even if it were a toll road.
"ACT supports private initiatives of major infrastructure projects. I support the development of Transmission Gully -
support that will continue until the project goes ahead," Mrs Roy said.
