Embarrassed Lianne Loses Files!
New Zealand First has caused further embarrassment to the embattled Immigration Minister by pointing out that her officials lost two pallets of highly confidential files relating to residency applications.
Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters revealed during question time in Parliament this afternoon that 700 files had been mislaid somewhere between New Zealand and Shanghai and Beijing.
“These files contained original documents such as birth certificates, bank statements and other important papers and were being sent offshore because there were too many to process in New Zealand.
“The Minister admitted that there were more than 27,000 residency applications and it appears that she is now sending them to the Chinese who will determine who is suitable for New Zealand residency.
“It is understood that each of these applications is from business people seeking to buy their way into this country.”
Mr Peters suggested that the Minister might be able to find the missing files somewhere in a warehouse south of Auckland.
“This begs the question of what they were doing there? This lame duck minister has some explaining to do.”
