Labour will have to backtrack on flatulence tax
The Government is set to back down on it proposed flatulence tax, says National's Agriculture Spokesperson David Carter
says
"This Government has incompetently declared a flatulence tax, but has not thought through who will collect the money.
"It assumed that meat processing companies would willingly collect the money for it, but meat companies have now refused
point blank to do it.
"In the next couple of weeks we can expect to see a Government back down, which Ministers Sutton and Hodgson will
attempt to portray as listening to the concerns of farmers. That's rubbish - the only reason for the back down is the
Government's inability to collect the tax.
"This latest escapade has again shown Jim Sutton's true colours: he faithfully touted the Party line and neglected his
responsibilities to stand up for farmers," says Mr Carter.
