Commerce (Michelle Malyon, SC-Commerce@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee last met on Thursday, 3 July to consider the 2003/04 Estimates for Vote Economic, Industry and Regional
Development and Vote Commerce.
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 24 July to further consider the Status of Redundancy Payments Bill, the Radio
New Zealand Amendment Bill and the Copyright (Parallel Importation of Films and Onus of Proof) Amendment Bill. The
committee will also continue to hear evidence on the Consumer Credit Bill.
Finance and Expenditure (Peter Hurndell, SC-FE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. The next meeting is scheduled for 10.00 am on Wednesday, 23 July, when the
committee will consider the Income Tax Bill and the petitions of Neil Leckie and Michael Gibson.
Submissions on the Taxation (Annual Rates, GST, Trans-Tasman Imputation and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill are currently
being received. The closing date is Friday, 15 August 2003. You can get more information at

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (David Sanders, SC-FD@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will meet next week to hear further evidence and give consideration to the Counter-Terrorism Bill. It will
also begin consideration of the Immigration Amendment Bill. The closing date for submissions on this bill is Monday, 21
July 2003. Finally the committee will consider a number of international treaty examinations.
Government Administration (Lesley Ferguson, SC-GA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. Next week the committee meets on Thursday, 24 July in Wellington to hear evidence
on the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Bill. The committee is to hear evidence from six organisations, including the New
Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Creative New Zealand and the Auckland Philharmonic. The committee will also begin its
consideration of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Site Empowering Bill and further consider the Statutes Amendment Bill
(No 3).
Health (Catherine Parkin, SC-Health@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. It will meet on Wednesday next week to continue consideration of its inquiry of
health strategies relating to cannabis use and the Health (Screening Programmes) Amendment Bill.
The committee will hear evidence from Medsafe on its inquiry into the proposal to establish a trans-Tasman agency to
regulate therapeutic products. This will be from 10.00 am to 12 noon in Room G.011, Parliament House, and will be open
to the public.
The committee is inviting public submissions on its inquiry into the health effects of Agent Orange on New Zealand
defence personnel who served in the Vietnam War. The closing date for submissions is next Monday, 21 July 2003. Further

Justice and Electoral (Louise Sparrer, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on 16 July to consider the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Bill, the Clean Slate Bill and the Supreme
Court Bill. The committee heard evidence on the Supreme Court Bill from Ngati Porou, Sir Ivor Richardson, and Sir Tipene
O'Regan.
The committee will meet next on 23 July, when it will continue to consider the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Bill, the
Clean Slate Bill and the Supreme Court Bill. The meeting will be in Room G.003, Parliament House and will be open to the
public from 9.30 am to 11.30 am for hearings of evidence by videoconference from Richard Cornes (in the United Kingdom)
and Peter Hogg (in Canada).
Law and Order (Tracey Rayner, SC-LO@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. It is meeting next week in Auckland on Wednesday, 23 July, when it will hear
Auckland-based submitters on the Corrections Bill. This will be from 4.10 pm to 7.30 pm, at the Copthorne Harbour City
Hotel, Quay Street, Auckland. The committee will also hear submissions on the Corrections Bill in Wellington on
Wednesday, 30 July.
The committee is calling for submissions on two bills, the Courts and Criminal Matters Bill, and the Secondhand Dealers
and Pawnbrokers Bill. Submissions close on 6 August 2003. Submissions should be sent to Tracey Rayner, Clerk of
Committee, Law and Order Committee Secretariat, Parliament House, Wellington.
Primary Production (Bob Bunch, SC-PP@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. It will meet next Thursday, 24 July to consider the Wine Bill, the New Zealand
Horticultural Authority Amendment Bill (No 2) and the Misuse of Drugs (Industrial Hemp) Amendment Bill. It will also
further consider the inquiry into the administration and management of the scampi fishery.
Regulations Review (Michael Wilkinson, SC-RR@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will meet on Wednesday, 23 July to continue its regular scrutiny of new government regulations. In
addition it will hear evidence on a complaint regarding the Fisheries (Declaration of New Stocks Subject to Quota
Management System) Notice (No 2) 2002 (SR 2002/349). This is open to the public from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm in Room G.009,
Parliament House.
Social Services (Graham Hill, SC-SS@parliament.govt.nz)
At the next meeting on 24 July the committee will consider the Families Commission Bill and receive a briefing (open to
the public) on the youth justice and social service delivery to the children and young people convicted in relation to
the death of Michael Choy.
Transport and Industrial Relations (Kath Henderson, SC-TI@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. The next meeting will be on the morning of Thursday, 24 July and will be open to
the public when the committee continues hearing submissions on the Holidays Bill and the Holidays (Four Weeks Annual
Leave) Amendment Bill between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm. The committee plans to meet earlier to consider the petition of Ross
Sutherland regarding Paraparaumu Airport.
