Hui Message Must Be Clear

Hui Message Must Be Clear
ACT New Zealand Maori Affairs Spokesman Stephen Franks today again called on the Government to reassure other New Zealanders that the Tuwharetoa hui will hear decisively that all New Zealanders will be treated alike under the same law.
"We should not be allowing false expectations to grow. The longer people are left to pontificate on these topics - debating propositions that most New Zealanders believe are completely out of the question - without a clear and simple statement from the Government, the worse race relations in this country will become.
"Ordinary New Zealanders will be left to watch their Government conspiring with radicals to make the law into a competition for the spoils of negotiation.
"It is time that the enthusiasts for this looked around the world for any happy example of a society where the people seek privilege on the basis of race, rather than merit," Mr Franks said.
