Penalties Are The Price Of Crime
New Zealand First Justice Spokesman, Mr Dail Jones, today reinforced New Zealand First’s opposition to the government’s
proposed Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Bill and the Clean Slate Bill of marijuana advocating Green Party MP Nandor
Tanczos.
Mr Jones was responding to the range of submissions currently being presented on this Bill to the Parliamentary Justice
and Electoral Select Committee.
“Crime after all is a conscious choice made by individuals and an integral component of the penalty is a public record.
Any person prosecuted and found guilty must accept the consequential stigma which may result from a record of the
incident,” said Mr Jones.
“Time does not ameliorate the impact of so many crimes for those offended against, why should it therefore be so for
offenders?
“Even so called victimless crimes have some form of impact upon our societies and should not be written off because of a
calendar date arriving,” Mr Jones concluded.
