Insight Into Prisons To Be Gained
New Zealand First Leader and Tauranga MP, Rt Hon Winston Peters, today advised that members of his Caucus, namely Ron Mark, Dail Jones, Pita Paraone, Edwin Perry, Bill Gudgeon and Craig McNair will be visiting the Auckland Central Prison and Auckland Paremoremo Prison on Monday, 7 July 2003.
The purpose of the visit is two-fold. Firstly to gain first hand knowledge of the facilities at these establishments and secondly to ensure that submitters during the Select Committee process into the Corrections Bill are able talk in a more practical manner with New Zealand First Select Committee representatives. A further benefit will arise from the chance to compare a privately run facility with that administered by the public sector, said Mr Peters.
