Dangerous Offender On Home Detention
New Zealand First today revealed that an offender with a history of violence and intimidation has been released on home
detention in Christchurch.
Law and order spokesperson Ron Mark asked the Corrections Minister in Parliament today why Delany Mark Temara had been
granted home detention in view of his serious criminal record.
“Temara was sentenced to five years in jail in May 2000 for using a firearm against a law enforcement officer. Other
charges against him have included,
- possessing a firearm,
- assaulting a prison officer,
- aggravated robbery using a firearm,
- assault with intent to injure,
- assault with a stabbing instrument,
- assaulting a female,
- wilful damage,
- trespass.
“This individual is also reported to have intimidated witnesses to have complaints withdrawn. In one case a women is
reported to have withdrawn a complaint after her dog was hung on her clothesline and its throat cut.
“Temara is receiving psychiatric medication and he is reported to have links to the Mongrel Mob.”
Mr Mark said that Temara would be released from home detention in late August.
“This man has a history of violent offending and intimidation. It is unbelievable that offenders like this are allowed
home detention without any thought to the safety of the community.”
