Film and Tv grants scheme good news for Wellington
Wellington Members of Parliament have welcomed the government's decision to offer production expenditure grants to large-budget film and television productions.
Rongotai MP, Annette King and Wellington Central MP, Marian Hobbs, said the Wellington region is the centre of the New Zealand film industry and the grants will help boost the local economy and give confidence to the future.
"One of the areas a 'Positively Wellington Business' report advised Wellington to concentrate on, was the creative industries and the grant scheme announced today will definitely support that," the MPs said.
"Film and television play an important role in portraying us and our skills, so much of which is based in Wellington, to the rest of the world and the grants scheme is further evidence of the government's determination to support our creative industries.
"We congratulate Economic Development Minister Jim Anderton for promoting the grants as part of the long-term development of the New Zealand screen industry."
