Cut Everyone's Tax, Not Just The Favoured Few
Monday 30 Jun 2003 Rodney Hide Press Releases -- Taxation
ACT New Zealand Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide today said that the Government's move to give special rebates to the film industry - picking them out as a special industry - was a mistake.
"The Government has today signalled that film companies who spend more than $50 million making their films in New Zealand will be eligible for a 12.5 percent rebate at the end of their post-production phase.
"This is just another example of the Labour Government trying to pick winners, and singling out its favourites for special treatment. The Government should be cutting everyone's taxes, not playing favourites.
"The best tax policy is a low flat tax of 20 cents or less. The worst policy is high taxes with rebates for anyone who cares to lobby politicians," Mr Hide said.
