Asian environmental achievements recognised
National MP Pansy Wong says the Auckland Chinese Conservation Education Trust scooping two environment awards only a year after its establishment, shows that caring about the environment is a priority for Chinese people.
The Trust was joint winner of the New Zealand Green Ribbon Award for raising awareness of environmental issues. In the same week, the Trust also received an Auckland Regional Council E award. Mrs Wong, who is Patron of the Trust, says this sends a clear message that Chinese New Zealanders care about the environment. "The positive influences of Asian New Zealanders in the areas of business, education and the environment will be increasingly noticeable as Asian communities gain confidence in the system and processes of our society.
"Asian New Zealanders are well-educated and self sufficient, and they are bringing more entrepreneurial and technical skills to New Zealand.
"Asians living here want to be part of New Zealand society and to work towards solutions that enhance wellbeing in our society. These awards show they are both successful and caring about our society," Mrs Wong said.
