TV3 Story Totally Wrong
ACT Leader Richard Prebble said today that TV3's lead story that the ACT Caucus had re-suspended Donna Awatere Huata is totally wrong.
"TV3's reporter was told by me that all that was happening was that Donna was being written to asking if anything had happened as her suspension was to the end of this month and if not the suspension would be rolled out until the three agencies, the Auditor-General, the police and the Serious Fraud Office, have reported.
"I understand that TV3's 20/20 programme has done a documentary on Mrs Huata and the TV3 news piece was simply to revive public interest.
"The ACT party does not have the ability to expel Donna Awatere Huata from parliament even though she was elected on the ACT party list. As leader I am obliged to supply her with an office, staff and support. So the TV3 story that suspending her somehow saved money is nonsense. I hate to be the first to tell Mrs Huata this, but she is mistaken if she thinks that she will receive $111,000 wroth of funding if ACT was to expel her. Parliament is silly but not as silly as that," said Mr Prebble.
