Greens nominated for their own Cold Shower Award
United Future energy spokesman, Gordon Copeland, announced today the Green Party had been nominated as a front runner
for the Greens' 'name and shame' Cold Shower Award intended to highlight big companies the Greens claim are wasting
electricity.
"It is typical of the Greens' anti-business policies that it targets only business, the employers and wealth creators of
New Zealand," he said.
"Yet it can be argued that the Greens themselves are a complete waste of Parliamentary space.
"I say this because the Greens use their position in Parliament to advocate for an increase in electricity prices in New
Zealand - since that would mean that we would all use a lot less of it in the first place!
"It does not seem to have dawned on them that cheap electricity is vital to New Zealand businesses and the overall
prosperity of our nation. We face high transport costs for New Zealand goods because we are geographically situated a
long way away from our markets.
"We desperately need low cost electricity to offset that negative factor. Worse still, higher electricity prices will
not only mean that cold showers become routine, but that our elderly will shiver and computers and cellphones will be
reserved for the elite.
"It follows that any use by the Greens of the nation's power supply to drive their computers, their cellphones and their
propaganda printing presses is a complete waste."
