Baldock compliments Sowry
United Future MP Larry Baldock today complimented National's Roger Sowry for the raw courage and honesty he displayed during his Budget speech today.
"Mr Sowry did not flinch from revealing himself as a failed politician who couldn't win an election against a drover's dog; a politician who fails to understand that the country has moved on from first-past-the-post politics to MMP; a politician who fails to understand how the Budget process works," said Mr Baldock.
"It takes great personal courage to lay one's failings bare in front of one's colleagues and Mr Sowry deserves commendation for that.
"It is good that Mr Sowry has this courage, as he will need it when Bill English dumps him as deputy leader of the National Party under pressure from the rest of his caucus.
"National MPs have told me privately that the sort of frenzied, bitter and ultimately mindless attacks that Mr Sowry makes on United Future are not in the long term interests of the National Party and they look forward to developing a more constructive relationship, as soon as Mr Sowry is relegated to the backbenches," said Mr Baldock.
