Swain declares an end to electricity crisis
The Government is showing its supreme arrogance declaring an end to the electricity crisis in Parliament today, says
National Party Energy spokesman Gerry Brownlee. "In the wake of yesterday's tax announcement, Acting Energy Minister
Paul Swain has confidently stated in the house that the Government has solved the country's electricity supply shortage.
"Minutes later he appeared to change his mind.
"Kiwi householders may take his misinformed comments at face value and stop conserving electricity, when the reality is
that there's no end to the crisis in sight.
"The Labour Government is obviously ducking for cover on it's botched handling of the electricity crisis," Mr Brownlee
says.
"Neither Pete Hodgson nor the Prime Minister were in Parliament today to answer questions.
"Instead of fronting up to the public and justifying yesterday's $200 million electricity tax grab, Labour's front-bench
is running scared," he says.
"New Zealanders have every right to expect Ministers to take responsibility and be accountable for their portfolios.
"This is not the transparent and open Government Labour promised," Mr Brownlee says.
