Rick Barker promoted to Cabinet
Rick Barker was today promoted to Cabinet, following the resignation last week of Mark Gosche due to family circumstances.
Mr Barker said although his promotion was tinged with sadness, he was also greatly humbled by the appointment.
“Like all of us our thoughts are with Mark and Carol Gosche and the family and we hope that things improve for them very quickly.
“For me personally, being appointed to Cabinet is an overwhelming privilege and honour. The Labour caucus has shown great trust in me and I intend to work very hard to ensure that confidence in that trust is not misplaced.”
Mr Barker became a Minister outside Cabinet after the 2002 General Election and is currently Minister of Customs, Associate Minister of Justice and Associate Minister of Social Services and Employment.
“As Customs Minister I’ve done a lot of work which I’d like to see to fruition, but there are also other Ministerial responsibilities out there which I may become involved with shortly.”
