Toothbrush Teaching A Must For All Children
New Zealand First family affairs spokesperson Barbara Stewart says she fully supports Dr Bob McKegg’s “toothbrush
project” and hopes that extra District Health Board funding will help to continue and expand the project.
“With such a resounding success in the Northland project all boards should look at implementing the project in their
areas,” said Mrs Stewart.
The project entailed primary school teachers being provided with toothbrushes and toothpaste and getting children to
brush their teeth after lunch.
“The dental service is in a sorry state so this could be a way to combat the problem of decaying teeth amongst children.
“It is essential that children’s teeth are looked after if we are to avoid more serious problems in later years, which
could put a huge, and unnecessary drain on health funds.
“I urge all areas to take on the project,” said Mrs Stewart.
