“Quota Ticketing” Is A Fishy Business
The case of a Dunedin man who has amounted almost $30,000 in outstanding fines for traffic infringements has outraged
New Zealand First law and order spokesperson Ron Mark.
“What is the point in the Government bragging about the benefits of the “quota system” of issuing tickets for traffic
offences when punishment is not enforced?” asks Mr Mark.
“Police officers are trawling the roads in order to catch their quota of offenders but all they are doing is netting the
small fry. The big sharks are getting away with daylight robbery!
“I am sure this case is not unique. It is just one example which serves to show the futility of this kind of policing.
“There is little point in amassing a dossier full of minor traffic offenders when the big ones are getting away, and
quite literally laughing all the way to the bank.”
“These are the very people the police should be targeting as the grand total of their fines demonstrates their complete
contempt for the law.
“It’s time the Government set some quality rather than quantity standards for this country’s policing.”
