Happy May Day from the Progressive MPs
This May Day we can celebrate the fact that more and more jobs are being created and working conditions are steadily
improving under the Labour Progressive Government, even though we continue to push for a lot more - including 4 weeks
annual leave.
We are also proud to remind people that May 1 2003, is the 14th anniversary of having a progressive left presence in
parliament.
On May 1, 1989, Jim Anderton and I broke away from the Labour Party because we wanted to build of a progressive party
which put full employment for all New Zealanders first. Fourteen years on, we have made much more progress than we would
have dreamed possible at the outset of our venture.
We successfully fought to reverse the New Right tide of 1984-1999, help usher in a more democratic and representative
electoral system and ever since 1999 we have been inside of government getting positive things done for people while
keeping Labour on a progressive course.
