Govt hikes petrol prices again
Motorists are being hit with another rise in petrol prices, thanks to a rise in ACC levies from the Government, says
National's ACC spokesperson Dr Paul Hutchison.
The Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Bill was tabled in Parliament on Monday and raises the
ACC levy from 2.3 to 5.08 cents per litre of petrol. The increase comes into force on the 1st of July.
"This is another whack in the pocket for motorists, and the latest in a long line of 'stealth' tax increases brought in
by Labour.
"If the Government's policies to reduce motor vehicle accidents had really been serious and effective then the levy
would be going down, not up. Instead they have broken their promise of no new taxes and have failed to cut the costs of
accidents.
"The need for more levy increases is proof that renationalising ACC hasn't cut costs or benefited users as promised,"
said Dr Hutchison.
