Greens way off the mark on Street Racing Bill
National is labelling as "complete hypocrisy" the Greens' decision to vote against a law cracking down on street racers
due to be passed under urgency this week.
"It's an example of this Party's double standard on transport issues," says National's Associate Transport spokesperson,
John Key.
"How daft can it get? With their Road Traffic Reduction Bill currently before Parliament, the Greens want law-abiding
New Zealanders to stop making necessary car trips, like dropping the children off at school, but say it's OK for
street-racing hoons to tear up the road and pollute the environment?
"Let's not forget that these are the same Green MPs who promote walking, cycling and a clean environment.
"Having allowed the Greens to already hijack the Land Transport Management Bill, maybe this latest snub is the wake-up
call the Government needs. It should now realise that when it comes to transport policy, listening to the Greens isn't a
sound thing to do," says John Key.
