Health Board held to ransom by political correctness
The National Party is outraged that the Government is allowing the Kapiti and Coast District Health Board to be held to
ransom by a case of absurd political correctness, says the Party's Deputy Leader Roger Sowry.
He's commenting on a deal done with local Maori, which has seen women banned from working on the construction of a new
$5.5 million Health Centre in Paraparaumu.
"It's simple - Capital and Coast District Health should never have done this deal," Mr Sowry says.
"There's no way a Government agency like the Health Board, should be party to such a discriminatory policy.
"But I have every sympathy for Capital and Coast Health, who've been forced into this position by a Government that
gives Maori special consultative powers," says Mr Sowry.
"Powers that don't extend to the rest of New Zealand.
"The banning of women from this work-site should not be taken lightly and it must be stopped immediately, long before
there's any claim put before the Human Rights Commission," Mr Sowry says.
"The Government's gone too far giving the force of law to things like the 'taniwha', while ratepayers shell out big
money for 'culturally acceptable' sand.
"This political correctness must be brought to an end, there must be one standard of citizenship for all New
Zealanders," Mr Sowry says.
