Peters Holds Minister To Treaty Pledge
New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston has called on the Maori Affairs Minister to honour his offer in Parliament today to publicly discuss the “principles” of the Treaty of Waitangi.
“The Minister, Parekura Horomaia, twice said that he would discuss these “principles” with me outside the House so I am accepting his offer and will arrange for a public meeting for him to do so - with the media present.”
Mr Peters said that he had been trying for some years to find out the exact definition of the Treaty “principles” and how they fitted into Government policy and legislative changes.
“We are grateful to the Minister for his offer and will ensure that as many New Zealanders as possible get to hear his explanation because of the impact that these mystical Treaty “principles” have on their lives.
“We will have a number of questions to put to the Minister about this issue so we sincerely hope that he is prepared to front up as he has offered,” said Mr Peters.
