NZ First MPs to Oppose Prostitution Moves
New Zealand First MPs will block attempts to water down the Prostitution Reform Bill and remain unified in their
opposition to the legislation.
Justice spokesperson Dail Jones said today that some of the proposed amendments are simply an attempt to pass a slightly
amended form of the bill by subterfuge.
“The only honourable position for those opposed to legalising prostitution is to reject this legislation, and its
amendments, and allow Parliament to turn its attention to the New Zealand First Member’s Bill.
“This Bill is based on the Swedish legislation which provides for the clients of prostitutes to be prosecuted and will
encourage prostitutes to leave this sordid industry.
“New Zealand First is opposed to the trafficking of women and will continue to fight against any moves to make
prostitution a legal way of life in our country,” said Mr Jones.
