The committee did not meet this week. It next meets on Thursday, 20 March to hear evidence on the financial review of
Radio New Zealand Limited, which will be open to the public, and further its consideration of the financial reviews of
Television New Zealand Limited and the Meteorological Service of New Zealand Limited.
Education and Science (Angela Van Dam, SC-ES@parliament.govt.nz)
Next week the committee will meet on Wednesday, 19 March to hear evidence on the 2001/02 financial review of the New
Zealand Teachers Council and the inquiry into teacher education. Both hearings of evidence will be open to the public.
Finance and Expenditure (Peter Hurndell, SC-FE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. Next week, the committee will meet on Wednesday, 19 March in Room G.002,
Parliament House between 10.00 am and
1.00 pm to consider the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Amendment Bill and the Income Tax Bill. The committee will also hear
evidence on the Monetary Policy Statement. The hearing of evidence will be open to the public.
The committee is currently receiving submissions on the Income Tax Bill. Submissions close, on Thursday, 24 April 2003.

Government Administration (Lesley Ferguson, SC-GA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee meets next week on Thursday, 20 March in Wellington. It will hear evidence from Dr Seddon Bennington,
chief executive, on the financial and operational performance for the 2001/02 financial year of the Museum of New
Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. The committee will also further consider its inquiry into the weathertightness of buildings
in New Zealand, and the financial reviews of the Building Industry Authority and New Zealand Lotteries Commission.
Health (Catherine Parkin, SC-Health@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on Wednesday of this week. It continued consideration of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance
Bill, and other items.
The committee is expecting an Order in Council to be referred to it within the next week, which will amend the
classification of methamphetamines and some other substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. The committee received
a briefing this week on the proposed reclassification from the Expert Advisory Committee on Drugs and officials from the
Ministry of Health.
Next week the committee will meet on Wednesday, when it will hear evidence on the 2001/02 financial review of the
Tairawhiti District Health Board, from 9.45 am to
11.00 am, and the Mid Central District Health Board, from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm. These will both take place in Room G.003,
Parliament House, and will be open to the public.
The committee is inviting submissions on the Health (Screening Programmes) Amendment Bill, which will close on Friday 11

Justice and Electoral (Louise Sparrer, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on 12 March to consider the Retirement Villages Bill. At its next meeting on 19 March, the committee
will continue to consider the Retirement Villages Bill. It will also briefly consider its inquiry into the 2002 General
Election, the Conveyancers Bill and the Supreme Court Bill. None of these items will be open to the public.
Local Government and Environment (Marie Alexander, SC-LGE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on Thursday, 13 March to start hearing submissions on the Marine Reserves Bill. The committee next
meets on Thursday, 20 March to hear further submissions on the Marine Reserves Bill. The meeting will be open to the
public during the hearings. The schedule of select committee meetings on the website will state the times that the
meeting will be open.
Mâori Affairs (Miles Reay, SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 20 March to further consider the Te Whanau-a-Taupara Trust Empowering Bill,
continue its inquiry into the Crown Forestry Rental Trust, and hear evidence from Te Puni Kokiri on its report into
service delivery to Mâori by the New Zealand Police.

The committee will next meet on Thursday, 20 March at 8.00 am in Room G.006, Parliament House to consider the
appointment of an Ombudsman and the 2003/04 Budgets and 2002/03 Supplementary Appropriations for Officers of Parliament.

The committee did not meet this week. Next week it will hold further hearings of evidence on the inquiry into the
management and administration of the scampi fishery. Witnesses to appear before the committee on Monday and Tuesday, 17
and 18 March, are either staff or former staff of Ministry of Fisheries or its predecessor, the Ministry of Agriculture

The committee did not meet this week. It will next meet on Wednesday, 19 March to continue its regular scrutiny of new
government regulations.
Transport and Industrial Relations (Kath Henderson, SC-TI@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met in Auckland from 9.30 am to 7.20 pm on Thursday this week to hear submissions on the Land Transport
Management and Road Traffic Reduction Bills. The meeting was open to the public. Next week the committee will meet twice
in Wellington, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 19 March from 3.15 pm to 5.30 pm and on the morning of Thursday, 20 March
to hear submissions and further consider the two bills. The Wednesday afternoon meeting will be open to the public. The
Thursday morning meeting will be open to the public between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm while submissions are being heard.
