National demands release of cancer treatment figures
Explanations from the Ministry of Health over delays in supplying radiation treatment waiting times simply don't stack up, said National's Health spokesperson Dr Lynda Scott.
"Not releasing these figures has nothing to do with the website. The data is collected by DHBs in the old format, so why isn't it available in this format until the website is up and running?"
Dr Scott said the weak explanations fail to give reassurance about this lack of transparency.
The figures have previously been released through Parliamentary questions, before the Health Minister announced they would be posted online. Despite this assurance the figures have still not been posted.
"We know these figures have been controversial because they have shown up delays that affect lives.
"The data is still being collected and should be made available. How many more months do we have to wait?" said Dr Scott.
