MPs to meet mauled girl’s father over Dog control
Quickening a review of dog control legislation is the aim of a meeting in Parliament on Wednesday between MPs and the
father of mauled Auckland girl Carolina Anderson.
Labour backbencher Steve Chadwick said she wants Parliament to respond quickly to the recent spate of dog attacks with
changes to the law.
“The law has to give council officers the ability on the ground to control antisocial and dangerous dogs.”
Mrs Chadwick says she met with Carolina at Middlemore Hospital on Friday after being invited by her father John
Anderson.
“He showed me the photos of little Carolina’s injuries when she was admitted to hospital. I have to say I was upset;
even with my children’s health background, I have never seen anything more horrific.”
Mrs Chadwick said the plastic surgeons at Middlemore had “done a remarkable job”.
“I am more determined than ever to keep the heat on this issue and to make sure other MPs understand how important this
matter is.”
Mrs Chadwick is promoting her own Private Members Bill, the Dog Control (Dog Seizure) Amendment Bill.
“I’m proposing legislation that deals with antisocial and dangerous dog behaviour, and with the manner in which they are
kept.”
