Congratulations Timor returnees
Progressive MP Matt Robson congratulates the New Zealand Defence Force personnel for the excellent work carried out East Timor as they hold their homecoming parade in Wellington today.
"New Zealanders are proud of the role New Zealand has played in bringing security and assistance to the people of East Timor over the period of transition towards independence.
"Peacekeeping and rebuilding are key to elements of Progressive foreign affairs and defence policies and our forces in East Timor have shown just how effective this work is.
"We have helped to lay the foundations for the redevelopment of East Timor after many years of suffering. Our challenge now is to deepen our involvement in the development needed to secure their future.
