SCARING THE CHILDREN!
“Sue Kedgley is completely out of line, debating an issue is one thing – trying to scare kids and panic parents is quite
another!” according to Brian Connell, speaking in his capacity as National’s spokesman on Forestry.
His comments followed criticism of the Green MP for placing a ‘Toxic Hazard’ sign in a Wellington playground built of
CCA-treated timber which the Green Party believes to be a danger to children.
“ERMA are currently studying the entire issue of CCA-treated timber and should be allowed to investigate it without
hysterical scare-mongering. Our major timber companies are co-operating completely with the review and have consistently
demonstrated a high regard for safety and for the individual.”
“She’s a political vigilante,” he said calmly of her methods. “She doesn’t seem to want to wait on the CCA review in
case she misses out on a photo opportunity.”
“It is a product that has been in use for many decades – yet suddenly, Sue can’t allow the experts in the field a few
months to do a thorough review! It is just another case of the Greens taking the easy path out by going with what they
feel. Their views on a subject are elegant and simple, untouched by any messy logic or scientific evidence.”
“Let ERMA do their job. If CCA has any problems, they’ll uncover them and then the appropriate action can be taken.”
