Typical slack Govt response on rotting homes issue
The Government’s response to health issues raised regarding mould from rotting homes is typical of its inaction over the
rotting homes crisis, says National Housing Spokesperson Dr Wayne Mapp.
“The Government Administration Select Committee is due to report back to Parliament soon on the weather tightness issue
and health issues are among the concerns it has to deal with.
“The Government must take health concerns regarding rotting homes seriously.
“It needs to ensure there is enough funding for the Ministry of Health to deal with the problems that are arising from
the rotting homes crisis. Its response this week is typical of the way it has handled the crisis.
“Once again the Government is always playing catch up in not realising the full impact of this issue.
“We know that the rotting homes problem is huge but we are still waiting for the Government to agree to a survey to
assess the full scale of the problem, Dr Mapp said.
Dr Mapp is hosting National’s ninth public meeting on the rotting homes crisis in Queenstown this Friday (10/01).
Hundreds of people turned out to its public meetings around the country late last year.
Friday’s meeting is The Rocks Bar, the Quality Resort Terraces Hotel, 88 Frankton Rd, at 12.30pm.
