Dunne thanks English for a good laugh
United Future leader Peter Dunne today thanked National leader Bill English for giving him a good belly laugh at the end of a long tiring week.
“Mr English says he has dredged up a newspaper headline from 1998 and somehow this proves United Future should bring down the Government over the Qantas takeover of Air New Zealand,” said Mr Dunne.
“I can only conclude this is Mr English’s attempt to cheer us up before the Christmas break. And the joke gets better. Yesterday, Mr English was calling for us to bring down the Government.
“Today, he merely wants us to hint at withdrawing our support. What will be the call tomorrow? Smoke signals? Flights of pigeons?
“I repeat my earlier observation: if National wants to force an early election over this issue, then National will be destroyed as a political force. I’m reluctant to speak in clichés, but the image of turkeys yearning for Christmas comes irresistibly to mind.”
Mr Dunne thanked Mr English for the excellent joke and wished him well as he rested over Christmas.
